In celebration of Air Max Day, Nike held the 2018 Nike: On Air competition, giving residents the opportunity to create their own Air Max designs inspired by their hometowns. Working alongside Nike designers, winner Gwang Shin made his debut as a designer with the Nike Air Max 97 "Neon Seoul" in April 2019. Paying tribute to his city of Seoul, Shin takes inspiration from the famous neon signs in the South Korean capital, decorating the leather upper with vibrant stripes of color.
